Facebook Past its Peak

A story on CNET, January 9, 2013, by Chris Matyszczyk, unearths some interesting nuggets:

  • A recent survey on teen and young adult Internet activity by Garry Tan, co-founder of Posterous and Y Combinator, shows that Facebook is passe (“the Wrangler jeans of social networking”), while Tumblr, Instagram, and Snapchat are gaining in popularity.
  • Josh Miller, Branch co-founder, concludes in a recent interview that Facebook “may have an irreversibly bad brand.”

No reason to drop Facebook, but every reason to look beyond it — to networks where your brand may be discussed but where you don’t have a presence.
